A Word from Our Work Experience Week

My first week with Ezra's Confetti; and what I’ve learned, loved, and worked hard on. This week was my first full week adjusting into a completely different experience, learning what it's like to be professional and being in a work place. It's been equal parts chaotic, rewarding, and tiring. What started as just “let’s give this a go” has turned into days that blur together, filled with petals, paint, parcels, and so many little lessons I wasn't expecting.

What I've loved the most about being here is there is something so quietly satisfying about the simplest jobs, and de-petaling flowers has been my favourite. I thought it would feel incredibly tedious, but there’s something almost calming about carefully separating each delicate bloom, sorting them by shade and size, knowing they’ll soon be part of someone’s wedding, birthday, or special celebration. Every petal feels like holding a little piece of someone’s happiness.

Seeing all orders come in, packing them up, and printing those little labels to stick on parcels made me feel proud. When I sent out the first sample packs, I found myself smiling thinking about people opening them, feeling the petals, and seeing all the love me and Joe put into every detail. Even painting the wall felt like such a lovely fresh start, almost like we’re building something bright and beautiful from scratch. Getting to share what we’re making on social media too, and seeing people’s kind comments? That made every long minute worth it.

What I found quite hard was that it wasn’t all easy, even though there were days my brain felt like it was running in ten different directions at once. One minute I'm texting a customer to check their order details, the next I'm writing down the emails for funerals, then rushing back to finish samples. Balancing all these little jobs, big and small, was trickier than I thought it would be. I lost count of how many times I had to stop, take a breath, then carry on with what I was doing. There were also moments when I second guessed myself. Would people like the samples? Did I get that order right? It's scary putting something you care about out into the world.

What I've learned with Ezra's Confetti is by the end of the week, I've realised so much. I've learned that no job is “too small”; every single part of the job matters, from the way a label sits on a package to how clearly I reply to a message. I've learned to be patient, both with the work and with myself, and that things don’t always go perfectly the first time, and that is okay. But most of all, I've learned how much heart goes into building something like Ezra’s Confetti. I'm so grateful for everyone that has helped me. But just like that, my first week is over. I really wish I could stay a little longer.

This whole week I’ve been on work experience at Ezra’s Confetti and honestly it’s been so different to being at school. I've done so many different things I never thought I’d try and I’ve learnt loads along the way.

My favourite thing by far has been taking the petals off all the flowers. At first I thought it might be really boring just standing there picking bits off all day, but it’s actually really satisfying. I got to sort them into different colours and types, and it felt nice knowing all of them would be used for people’s weddings. I also really enjoyed coming up with social media ideas and making up little sample packs and sending them out, and I helped paint one of the walls in the back of the building white it looks so much nicer now.

The hardest part was definitely finding the funeral emails as it got quite boring. But I stuck with it and didn’t finish until I was done. I felt a bit all over the place at the start, and I was really worried I’d do the wrong thing or get someone’s order wrong.

But I’ve learnt so much already. I’ve seen that running a small business means you have to do a bit of everything, and even the smallest jobs like sticking a label on or replying to a message matter so much. I’m way better at staying organised now, and I don’t feel half as nervous. It’s been tiring but I’ve loved every minute, and I’m actually so sad the week’s already over.
