With so many venues making biodegradable confetti and dried petal confetti mandatory in their contracts, and over time we’re seeing more and more stating dried petal only, it’s important to understand why. While it can sometimes feel like another wedding planning rule to navigate, venues have very good reasons for their confetti policies, lets look into some of those reasons!
1. Protecting the environment
Plastic and foil confetti, that was frequently used in the past, does not break down naturally and can last for years in the environment. Even some types of paper confetti can take a very long time to decompose – especially if containing dyes or other additives.
This can leave venues with a build-up of litter that can be harmful to wildlife and spoil the environment. With how many weddings take place at many venues a year, the impact really adds up.
Biodegradable confetti is much more eco-friendly by breaking down quickly and naturally. Reducing waste and protecting the grounds and local wildlife.
2. Protecting wildlife
With many venues being surrounded by gardens, countryside, lakes and woodlands, there is a lot of wildlife in these areas. Using petal confetti is the best way to ensure safety for little rabbits and birds who might try to snack on the confetti.
3. Protecting the beautiful venue grounds
One of the reasons you chose your venue was because it looks beautiful! Staff work hard to keep it looking amazing, and confetti policies also work to keep it this way for everyone to enjoy!
4. Easier clean up
There is little time for the venue staff to make sure you have the best day ever and also clean up for the next event, so every little time saver helps! Petals are much easier to clean up and often blend in nicely with the landscape too!
5. Not all ‘biodegradable’ confetti is the same
“Biodegradable” can be a surprisingly vague term because, in a way, technically everything biodegrades – some just take a reeeeaaaally long time to do so!
Some products advertised as biodegradable contain dyes, additives, coatings and sometimes even foils and plastics, and venues are not comfortable with running the risk of these being used as they cannot verify what is in every product. This is why so many state dried petals only. That way, there’s no ambiguity about what’s allowed, and everyone can enjoy a beautiful confetti moment!
All of this is good news!
Not only is dried petal confetti kind to venues and the environment, it's also absolutely beautiful in photos!
That means you can enjoy your confetti moment knowing you're choosing an option that's beautiful, responsible and likely to be welcomed by your venue too.
