So How Do You Even Throw Confetti?

Surely this is an obvious question? You just throw it, right? Well, yes, you do. But it isn’t quite that straightforward. Let us consider precisely how to throw your confetti…
The first consideration is with loose confetti - i.e. petals that are all placed in a basket ready for guests to grab and throw. The important thing to remember here is that some guests will take far too few petals (for fear of there not being enough to go around, or not wanting to appear rude), and then some guests will just grab far, far too many (yes uncle, we’re looking at you!). It is always helpful to have a person or two staff the confetti baskets to make sure that the correct portion is being taken.
The correct portion (which again, isn’t as obvious as you may think), is a palmful. It should cover the palm and the fingers of your hand, and should sit comfortably ready to throw. If you have got so much confetti in your hand that you actually need two hands to hold it all, or if you’re not able to throw it properly, then that is too much confetti. Again, it is worth letting your guests know this.
That is why choosing a cone, or individual bag option (as we offer at Ezra’s Confetti) can be helpful - as every guest then has the specific amount of confetti that they need. The crucial thing that guests need to know here is that the confetti needs to be emptied out into a hand first, and not be thrown either from the cones, and especially not directly from the bag!
It may seem easy to throw the confetti from the cone, but actually, aim is likely to be poor (in a moment we will get to where to throw the confetti - another key consideration). From a bag it is even worse. Our bags come fully packed with our natural petals, so if you try to throw them directly from the bag, they either won’t come out, or they’ll limp out and fall on the floor in front of the guest. This is not going to get the confetti throw photo that you are wanting. Make sure that all guests empty their confetti into their hands first - perhaps a job for a best man or the photographer?
Talking of photographers, it is incredibly important to speak to them before the day about the type of photos you are wanting with your confetti. They will have an idea in their head, and you will likely in yours. Make sure that you have the same idea, otherwise you may be disappointed with what you get after your big day.
It is also worth noting that confetti needs to be thrown up and over the couple. Throwing it at the couple won’t allow for the fantastic flutter and super photos, as you can see on our website. The up and over allows for the petals to fall naturally and gracefully, giving you the most stunning photos.
On that point, it is also worth reminding guests not just of this, but also to make sure that their petals are not clumped together. As mentioned, the bags that we do come fully filled, so naturally may be a bit stuck together. Guests should separate out those petals to ensure maximum flutter. Again this is a job for the best man or photographer - or whoever you put in charge of this!
